Mark Putnam is a composer and performer. He received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Memphis State University where he also taught composition and music theory, conducted various ensembles, and helped coordinate the annual New Music Festival.
Putnam has received commissions from the Tennessee Music Teachers Association and has won First Prize in the ASUC Student Composition Contest, the Smit Prize, and the John Wesley Work Memorial Award. In 1989 he was the recipient of the Tennessee Arts Commission Individual Artist Fellowship in Music Composition. His compositions have been performed worldwide.
