The Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra is announcing a search for someone to serve in the role of Executive Director of the organization. This is currently a volunteer position that requires a commitment of 5-10 hours per week.
The Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra is a volunteer community orchestra whose mission is to supplement the artistic offerings in the Nashville music community. Since its founding in 2004, the NPO has become Nashville's premiere community ensemble, performing concerts of exciting, demanding repertoire for all audiences. Players of differing levels and backgrounds perform a diverse mix of repertoire - different genres and styles anchored in the classical tradition. NPO concerts feature soloists from the area and new music by local composers.
We are looking for someone passionate about great music, enterprising and creative, personable, solution driven, and willing to commit to a long-term relationship with the orchestra. This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to make a difference in the community by helping grow a dynamic organization of dedicated volunteers.
The Executive Director works closely with the Music Director, the Director of Public Relations and Development, and the Board to fulfill the mission of the orchestra. The ideal candidate would lead in the areas of Administration, Strategic Planning, Budget and Finance, Development and Fundraising, Communication, Partnering, and other duties.

The Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra is a volunteer community orchestra. Founded in January 2004 by Kelly Corcoran, the mission of the NPO is to supplement the artistic offerings in the Nashville and Middle Tennessee area.
From 2004 to 2007, the NPO was led by Mark Putnam. During his tenure as Music Director the orchestra grew to become Nashville's premiere community ensemble, performing concerts of exciting, demanding repertoire for all audiences. During the Fall of 2007, violinist and charter member of the NPO, David Hahn served as Music Director, raising community awareness and support for the orchestra.
This ensemble offers players of differing levels and backgrounds the opportunity to make music together. The Nashville Philharmonic performs a diverse mix of repertoire - different genres and styles anchored in the classical tradition. Players in the Nashville Philharmonic collaborate with the Music Director in making repertoire decisions. The orchestra features area soloists and new music by local composers.
New players are always welcome to inquire about membership in the orchestra.

Christopher Norton was appointed Music Director and Conductor of the Nashville Philharmonic in March 2008. Prior to moving to Tennessee, he held a similar post for nearly a decade in Kentucky with the Bowling Green Western Symphony Orchestra. In the Nashville area, he has guest conducted the Nashville Symphony, Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Nashville Ballet, ALIAS Chamber Ensemble, Vanderbilt Orchestra, and Blair Chamber Orchestra. Recognized for his work on university campuses, he has conducted various faculty and student ensembles in concerts of symphonic, opera, chamber, pops, ballet, and choral repertoire.
Norton earned his doctorate from Louisiana State University, and his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from the Eastman School of Music. He studied orchestral conducting with David Effron, choral conducting with John MacDonald, and band conducting with Frank Wickes; additional studies were taken from conducting workshops hosted by the American Symphony Orchestra League and the Conductors Guild. Beyond these experiences, Norton credits the educational benefits of performing for thirty years as a percussionist in professional orchestras under a wide array of conductors.
Dr. Norton is Professor of Music and Director of Percussion Studies at Belmont University.
Previous to his appointment to Belmont in 2001, he taught fourteen years at Western Kentucky University.

The NPO is a not-for-profit organization. Neither our players, Musical Director, Board Members, nor staff receive any compensation for their time and dedication. However, as with any other orchestra, we do have operating expenses such as music purchases, program printing, instrument rental, and transportation. Our charter allows us to ask members of the community, individuals and corporations, to make donations to help us in our mission.
The NPO is dedicated to making all of our performances FREE to the public. We receive no income from tickets sales.
You can support the Nashville Philharmonic Orchestra in several ways. Advertising in our concert programs is an inexpensive and effective way to reach audiences of several hundred people. It is possible for you or your company to underwrite a performance, or even a single piece of music. If you choose to help us purchase parts for a single piece of music, we print a special 'Thank You' in the concert program every time that piece is played (for years to come). And, of course, you may want to make a financial donation. We will announce your generous gift as part of our annual fund-raising campaign.
All gifts to the NPO are tax deductable.
For more information on how you can become a supporter of the NPO, please e-mail: info@nashvillephilharmonic.org
Thank You. |
